Considered one of the most important costume jewelry designers in America history, Miriam Haskell began her legendary career by opening a small boutique, Le Bijou de L'Heure, in New York's McAlpin Hotel in the 1920s. Her bold and creative designs - rooted in the Art Nouveau era - were perfectly suited for the freewheeling Roaring '20s. From the start, she was a trendsetter. And one of her early advertising slogans advised women that "colored glass necklaces, one for each outfit, are considered a necessity this year."
She quickly became a friend and collaborator of Coco Chanel, as well as a designer to many high-profile women of the time, including Lucille Ball, Joan Crawford and the Duchess of Windsor.
Perhaps most impressive, though, is the timeless quality of her style. Nearly 100 years since her first designs appeared, her work still feels relevant and "in fashion."
