SKU 10088
  • Nettie Rosenstein Vintage Coral Evening Bag
Est. MSRP $3,000 SOLD OUT!

Condition

An exquisite, and absolutely unique design, this bag from Nettie Rosenstein pushes the fashion envelope with the use of densely embroidered genuine coral applied to the body, straps and flap closure. Dimensions: 10"L x 1"W x 5 1/2"H; 7" drop handle. Provenance: Profiled in Life Magazine in 1937 as one of the most revered American fashion designers, she designed the total look to include complementary accessories and costume jewelry. Based in New York she made the highest priced gowns, $500 in 1940! In addition to couture - she designed Mamie Eisenhower's ballgown for Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration (Judith Leiber made the inaugural handbag as she was working for Nettie Rosenstein handbags!) - she designed for I.Magnin and other stores but she controlled her label by only allowing one store in each city to carry her exquisite designs. Her output was therefore limited, and today it is hard to find examples of her exquisite taste and quality, including her bags which are exceptionally well made and appreciated by an elite connoisseur.
