Swarovski

Daniel Swarovski was born in Bohemia in 1862, into a family of crystal and glass cutters. As a young man he apprenticed under his father and others, learning the art of hand-cutting. But when he was 21 he attended the First Electrical Exhibition in Vienna and developed a revolutionary idea: creating a machine to cut crystal.

After nine years of tireless work, he finally patented his machine in 1892. It was not only faster than hand-cutting, it offered unmatched precision. And the ability to produce perfectly cut crystals changed everything for the young Swarovski - and the world of fashion.

From that moment, the Swarovski name was synonymous with the highest quality and most brilliantly reflective crystals. And they continue to be prized by the most discerning consumers.

How best to describe a Swarovski crystal? In the company's own words: "(It's) the timelessly modern material of the moment, seductive and glamorous, light-filled and luxurious. The shining star in the firmament of fashion."
