With so many talents, successes and interests, one might wonder how Stephen Dweck could be only one person. We are grateful for his diversity, because it has led to some of the most unique and inspired jewelry created today.
Stephen Dweck spent much of his earlier life admiring art and nature, which clearly influenced his designs later on. He studied sculpture and painting at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Then after working independently, designing and carving stone jewelry, he launched his first line at Bergdorf Goodman in 1981. Since then he has collaborated with Donna Karan, Oscar de la Renta, Catherine Malandrino, and Escada, expanding his celebrated reputation.
When creating his distinctive jewelry in his Brooklyn studio, Dweck draws from an awe-inspiring collection of thousands of precious and semi-precious stones he has acquired over the past twenty-four years from around the world. He carefully selects each stone and uses them to stunning effect in his designs. His One of a Kind (never duplicated) pieces, each stamped with his signature Adam beetle, has given him the title of "Romancer of the Stones."
Dweck's royal 3 Stone Collector Necklace, dramatic Black Agate Oval Ring, and intoxicating Cognac Quartz Pear Earrings are testaments to his love of art and creativity. So are his jewelry displays at the Costume Department in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Smithsonian Institute Fashion Archives in Washington, D.C.
Dweck continues to amaze with his diversity by designing belts, fine china and silver serving sets and by renovating furniture. One of his serving sets is even featured in an exhibition about Modern American Silver. In addition he has worked on creative projects for Absolute Vodka, Bombay Gin and the City of New York subway system, creating a bracelet from vintage tokens.
