Simon Alcantara
![]() Borrowing from nature's most beautiful materials, Simon Alcantara transforms them into unique jewelry suited for the kind of woman who inspires him most - one who "celebrates her inherent femininity and personal power." Born in New York of Dominican parents, Simon Alcantara spent the early part of his life as a classical ballet dancer. He was on his way to becoming a professional dancer when an injury made him turn towards another of his creative passions - design. He had already been designing pieces for his ballerina friends, and without any formal design training, continued inventing and crafting extraordinary jewelry. Alcantara launched his brand in 2000 after collaborations with Oscar de la Renta, Balmain Haute Couture Paris, J. Mendel Paris and Mary McFadden. Since then he has received a generous amount of press and his jewelry has been showcased in countless magazine spreads. In 2005 he was awarded the Rising Star Award for Fine Jewelry by Fashion Group International Inc. and was involved in designing jewelry inspired by the New York Subway System for a centennial celebration. In addition to raising a successful brand, Alcantara strives to run an ethical business that values creativity, compassion and imagination. His jewelry seems a natural extension of those values, inspiring women to embrace them, as well as express their modern femininity and individual strength. In one of his signature earring designs, he imaginatively transforms the classic hoop into something special, weaving small beads of topaz, golden citrine or watermelon tourmaline onto the gold hoop to create an attractively elegant look. He imagines new and expressive ways of combining natural materials like precious and semi-precious stones, bone, exotic woods and pearls. The end result can be exotic, dazzling and distinct. |
