Prada
Prada began in 1913 as a leather goods company in Milan. Founder Mario Prada sold shoes, handbags and luggage made from the highest quality leather. Their signature product: a genuine walrus skin suitcase.
While the company was long respected, it wasn't until 1978, however, when Mario's granddaughter Miuccia Prada inherited the company, that it emerged as a fashion leader.
At that time, the prevailing look was bright, frilly and revealing. But Miuccia went in a different direction - with simple, elegant and luxurious designs. And her strict adherence to those standards have made Prada one of the most influential designers in the fashion industry.
Among their many accolades, Prada was the 1993 recipient of the Council of Fashion Designers of America award for accessories. Known around the world, the distinctive silver Prada triangle is one of the most coveted status symbols found anywhere.
