Yves Saint Laurent

Founded in 1961, Yves Saint Laurent changed the way women dressed. His ground-breaking designs put women in "feminized" men's styles: pant suits, safari jackets, tuxedos and more, including his legendary - "Le Smoking" jacket.

In 1965 Yves Saint Laurent made history as the first couture house to launch a luxury women's ready-to-wear collection, which he called Rive Gauche.

He went on to build an international following with designs that combine elegance, quality and refinement.

Among his earliest fans -- and his long-time muse -- is the French actress Catherine Deneuve. Yves Saint Laurent even created the costumes for her famous film "Belle de Jour."

He died in 2008 at age 71.
